“As a positive psychologist I am very impressed with this book’s important message. Often times people spend a life time grumpy or down in the dumps, unaware of who they really are or what their potential is. So imagine a world, where kids learn at two and three that they are in control of their nature and do have a choice as to how to respond! Our world would be so much better off. And that is the way I see this book. The fish has this great realization that the very parts of him that he felt made him dreay and weary, were really the parts that turn him into a kissing fish who could spread cheer everywhere! I hope moms and dads use the insight level of this book to encourage discussion and remind their kids that they can turn any of their traits into good and positive uses! This book is a must for young kids and their parents and should leave all kissing!” By Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein

“This book with its sing-song rhythm and upbeat ending is arguably my favorite children’s book. It is also tops on my toddler’s list as well. Started reading this to my daughter when she was about 6 months old and she still reads it now at 2. I see this being a good book even into early school years for her. We’ve also picked up some of the author’s off-shoots to this including her holiday book and the fish goes to school. Each have been just as thoughtfully written. Highly recommend this series.” By Natalie K

The Monster at the End of This Book Review

By all accounts, this book is a favorite among toddlers and adults alike. Generations will recall their first time reading along as lovable, furry old Grover begs the reader not to turn the page . . . for a monster is at the end of the book! But, of course, the monster is none other than Grover himself.

“Do not get confused. This book seems to be written for children, and no doubt they will enjoy it. But this is, hands down, one of the greatest, most lucid and simple books on post-modern angst I can think of. The message: We always have a fear of a painful and uncertain end, and we do whatever we can to avoid the inevitable. But, in the end, the monster is ourselves. Buy this for your favorite existentialist or buddhist. You will not be disappointed. I even used this book as a source for my Master’s Thesis on Absurdist theatre. It warrants praise.” By Cris L. Edwards

“Grover is more than a little nervous – after all, there’s a MONSTER at the end of the book. So, he enacts all kinds of zaniness like gluing the pages together in order to keep (protect) YOU (not him!!) from the monster at the end of the book.
This is the only book I remember my dad reading to me – EVER. (Probably because I asked for it a million times!!) He would act the parts out and change his voice and I would roll on the floor with laughter. When it came to Grover’s antics, my dad would pretend that the pages really *were* stuck together. He’d grunt and groan and s-l-o-w-l-y turn the pages.
I read it to my kids – my children and students alike – in the same manner. And you know what? Everyone rolls on the floor giggling. Everyone has a good time.
I highly recommend this one – it is a great story about the wacky ways we devise to avoid what we think we fear. BUT, it is also a great way to build memories that will last forever with your children.” By Summer Belle

If Animals Kissed Good Night Review

  • If animals kissed
    like we kiss good night,
    Giraffe and his calf
    would stretch their necks high
    and kiss just beneath
    the top of the sky.

  • In a cozy bedtime chat with her mom, a young girl wonders how animal families might say good night. Would Wolf and his pup “kiss and then HOWL”? Would Bear and her cub “kiss and then GROWL”? But what about Sloth and her baby? They move soooo slooowwwww . . . they’re sure to be kissing from early evening until long after everyone else is fast asleep!
  • With whimsical art and playful rhyming verse, this picture book is now in board book format for the first time, perfect for bedtime snuggles.

“This is a very sweet bedtime book. It has adorable illustrations and it’s a fun read, telling the story of how various animals might say goodnight (like the rhino and her baby tapping their horns together and the peacocks dancing their feather fans). My kids and I enjoy reading this one together and they love to name the animals as we go along.” By G. Maciejewski

“It took about 6 short exposures for our 18mo to get into this book (heck, it took me a few to read it without getting tongue-tied) but now he really enjoys it. This is the longest bedtime book in our collection and he sits through it with patience and focus like no other. It’s… beautiful. He has his favorite pages (that we repeat 5x) and we connect the animals to his own stuffed ones, or those we visit at the zoo. I definitely look forward to having him read this to me one day :)” By SabaBa Mama
